Q. I recently heard that Google doesn't use keywords. I thought keywords were an important part of SEO.
A. In the early days of the Internet, search engine optimization meant stuffing the meta keyword field with keywords. Google and other search engines became wise to this and now look more to your content to determine what your pages are about rather than relying on your meta keyword tag. Keyword research and optimizing your web page content for a small number of keyword phrases is still an important part of SEO. It is important to note that some search engines still depend on the meta keyword field for information. I advise clients to enter keywords in the meta tag if for no other reason than it is a convenient way to keep track of which keyword phrases you optimized the web page with.
