Boost Your Site's Lead Generation

by Dave Maloney
The first thing a lot of us think about in regards to inbound marketing is SEO, and how much traffic your site is getting. But getting them there is only half the fun! Now that you've got visitors to your site, what do you have for them once they're there? They came looking for something that you have (if you've done some SEO successfully), but what do you have to offer them that will make your company stand out from your competitors? If you want to generate leads, you need to present something to your visitors that they might actually want bad enough to sign up for.

Come Up with a Call to Action for Lead Generation

lead generation with old fashioned cartoon man with free signA Call to Action is a little advertisement in the sidebar of your page, offering your visitor something helpful and/or of interest to them.  It should eye-catching enough to be noticed, but not to the point of degrading your site's level of professionalism. You can have more than one offer to generate leads, but too many distractions on your page will just cause confusion and lack of interest. Keep the message short and simple, clear to understand. Add excitement with words like "Free!" or "Exclusive;" or create a sense of urgency with something like "Limited Time Offer." The call to action should have a sort lead generation form with it, or link to a landing page with more description of the special offer, explaining more reasons why it's so worth it to fill out your form.

Some Ideas for Lead Generation Forms

Your site probably already has a "Contact Us" form, which probably doesn't generate a lot of leads; see contact form spam. Your lead generation numbers would improve with more specific invitations or an offer with an incentive for your visitor:

  • Request a free demo (maybe on a product page)
  • Free consultation/analysis/estimate
  • Helpful tool/calculator relevant to your business
  • Ask a question/post a survey
  • Make an appointment
  • Subscribe to your newsletter/mailing list
  • Coupon/special discounts
  • Download our free:
    - Ebook or whitepaper
    - Exclusive video/webinar
    - Worksheet/workbook
    - Case study or comparison/results against another brand

These are a just few really basic suggestions to get you started thinking about what would work to generate leads for your business. When brainstorming ideas on how to get more potential customers to sign up with you, try to put yourself in their shoes: "What's in it for them?"
