5 Facebook Tricks You Probably Never Heard of!
by Dave Maloney
I think a lot of human beings (like me) are not thrilled that Facebook (as well as Google, Twitter, HubSpot, etc, etc) is adding new and exciting features every other day. It's hard to keep up with all of these "improvements," and you may be missing out on some useful features. Here are a few facebook tricks that you might find helpful with your business page but may not have known were there!
1. Measure success of each of your posts - if you're logged in and you have Admin rights to the page, you'll be able to see how many people have actually seen each post that the Page has made. (first image, red arrows) You can delete the post even if it wasn't posted by you: by hovering over the post, a "cog" symbol will display (first image, blue arrow) that will give you options when you click it. If you find a mistake, you can't edit something you posted, but you can delete the existing one and repost it the way you want it.
Want to be made an Admin, or add someone else to the admin list? Go to Edit Page (top right), choose "Manage Admins" (left side menu) and add an email address. Your page can have as many Admins as you want.
2. Change how a link looks - before you click "Post," you can edit how a link you want to share is displayed. Click on the link's title and/or description (second image, blue arrow) and they will turn into editing windows so you can type whatever you'd like. Another one of many Facebook tricks is you can choose the thumbnail image (second image, green arrow) that displays with the link from any of the images that can be found on the link's page.
3. Start a Poll - A way to generate some buzz with your fans is to create a Poll. Post a Question (third image, red arrow) and you can either add Poll Options (third image, blue arrow) for your visitors to choose from, or Facebook will automatically use the first 3 answers you get back as the choices to vote on. You can also set up the poll with your own answers, or add more to those Facebook creates.
4. Send Invitations Outside Facebook - When you create a new Event in Facebook, whether it's in your personal profile or business page, Facebook lets you choose whom you want to invite from your list of fans/likes. If you have a list of others you'd like to include who haven't realized the joy of the social network yet, you can add their email addresses below your fans list. (fourth image, red arrow) Just separate them with commas as you type or paste them in, and they'll get a meassge with a link to your event page (which they won't be able to access until they sign up for Facebook!)
5. Use the Calendar App for your Page- If your business has multiple events going on, (seminars, book signings, trade shows, etc) creating an event page for each is probably a pain, and you run the risk of events getting lost in the stream. There's an app called Social Calendar that you can install, that will put a Calendar link on your page right below the Wall/Info/Photos navigation on the left side. As you add your events into the calendar, it will autocomplete the names of any events you already have listed, and will include a Map link in the address field of the event.
This list barely scratches the surface of all the simple little Facebook tricks hidden in plain sight, and we hope you might find at least one of them useful - (before we're swamped with 1000 new ones!)
