How to Market your Blog - 10 Easy Tips
by Dave Maloney
We talk a lot about starting a business blog and how your blog can bring tons of traffic to your site. But, if you haven't done anything to market your blog, the only people who may find it are those who come to your homepage and click "Blog." Help your blog help you by trying out these suggestions on how to market your blog and get it noticed:
- Make sure it's easy to find on your website - advertise it on different pages; a feed showing the latest or most popular posts can welcome interest.
- Have a clear way to subscribe - either an RSS button or email signup, or both. The theme here is "easy to find."
- Add your blog URL/link in you email signature - every email, from you or any of your employees, is an opportunity to market your blog.
- Add your blog URL on anything printed - business cards, brochures, ads, company stationery, even invoices.
- Share and link to your blog posts in social media - your company needs to be listening and have a voice on Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin, even any relevant forums. That's where the world is, like it or not. Your blog posts can be part of that conversation: use links back to your blog, the idea is to bring them all to your place!
- Add a link to your blog in any press releases - again, if you're sending something out there to find people, make sure it has a way to bring them back.
- Place links in posts to other posts - readers will find your blog articles from all different directions, make it easy for them to find more about you. Even go back to your older posts and add links to newer posts - if it's good content, people are still finding and reading them too.
- Invite people to your blog at networking events - there still is value in putting a face with a name.
- Register your blog with free blog directories - ok, it isn't any fun, but the more links the better. (This should already be part of your overall link building strategy!)
- Be consistent and never give up! The more posts you have, the more chances you have to be found. And don't get discouraged by the "you can never stop" part; your success depends on the world knowing you're still alive and kicking - and still there for them when they need you!
