New Feature in FB: Convert Your Facebook Profile to Page

Are you using your Facebook personal profile as your business fan page? If so, you're violating Facebook's Terms of Service which state that "user profiles are for people only, not businesses and cannot be used to market a product or service," and you could end up losing your profile - and all the effort you've put into it!

Luckily, there's a new Convert Facebook Profile to Page feature to make it super easy for you to migrate your user profile into a business fan page without having to start building again from scratch.

  • Your profile pictures will automatically be migrated to your new business page.
  • All of your "friends" that you have accumulated will now be shown as "Likes" of your business page.
  • If you have fewer than 100 friends when you do your Convert Facebook Profile to Page, you'll also have the option to rename your business page if you want. If you're over 100 friends already, they must figure your name is fine.
  • NOTE: content like wall posts, linked apps and other photos you had on your personal page will not be transferred. If there's stuff you want to save, Facebook has info on how to download your content.

Aside from avoiding the threat of being deleted, there are advantages to having an official page for your business vs. just using a personal profile:

  • You and your followers have better privacy.
  • Facebook offers promotional features to business pages, like Facebook ads, badges and other customizable boxes.
  • Facebook Insights gives you status updates and detailed info about your followers; what's working for you and what isn't.

If you haven't made the switch, do it soon - or else you may be doing it the hard way!
