Do You Ever Actually Use Your Facebook Business Page?

by Dave Maloney
You've learned by now that having a website for your business is a great start, but just having one sitting there is not enough - it has to be updated and maintained for it to have any value and keep that value. You've seen that by starting a blog for your business and regularly adding content is a huge help in bringing in new and repeat visitors to the site and raising your clout within search engines. But what about that social media thing - when was the last time you looked at your Facebook business page?

The phrase "social media" itself is intimidating enough for a lot of us to avoid it, and "It won't work for my type of business" covers many more. But with a stat like 80 million active users logged on from their mobile devices just in one month(!), how can it not be worth looking into?

It may help to think of social media like a networking breakfast (only with a much bigger table). You're not there to sell, but just build connections, which is why some business owners may see both as a waste of time.  By participating, your "fan" base will grow with first time prospects who have just heard about you and your services. By attending on a more frequent basis, repeat customers will be glad to see and hear from you again, and hopefully pass along your contact info to their colleagues, etc.

How do you do this? Just like you probably already do every day: you talk, you listen, you respond again, and so on. Although social networking may be easier for some business types than others, there must be something you know of that's going on in the world relevant to your industry that you could bring into a conversation.

By ignoring your Facebook business page, studies have shown that nothing will happen. But if by setting aside a few extra minutes a week could possibly make a noticeable impact on your internet marketing, why not give it a try? Next, we'll present Your Facebook Business Page Quick Usage Guide for Those Who Aren't going to read the Whole Social Media Manual. (Still working on the title)
